LUDHIANA, April 2 : It is a campaign with a difference. Dr Amrit Kaur Tewari, the mother of the Congress candidate from Ludhiana parliamentary constituency Manish Tewari went around the Rishi Nagar area last night seeking votes for her son. She was accompanied by the local leaders and councilors including Bharat Bhushan Ashu, Sneh Lata and former councilor Balkar Singh Sandhu.
Tewari appealed to the people to come out to vote for Manish. She went from one place to another place and was accorded warm welcome everywhere she went. She said, Manish has remained constantly in touch with the people of the area for last five years despite having lost the election. However, she pointed out, “Manish never thought he lost as he always thought about the three lakh people who reposed their faith in him, although he lost by a few thousand votes only”.
Dr Amrit Kaur Tewari herself belongs to an influential political family. Her father Tirath Singh Guram was a minister in the PEPSU government and had earlier been jailed also in the freedom movement. Her husband Professor Vishwanath Tewari belonged to a leading progressive family of Kartarpur near Jallandhar. He has written about 40 books in Punjabi and quite a number of these about the Sikh Gurus and their sacrifices.
She said, politics was in Manish’s blood as he had inherited it from his parents and grandparents. She promised that like in the past, Manish will continue to serve the people of Ludhiana in future as well. “It is an unending bond between the two (Manish and his people), which is going to last forever”, she said, while adding, he would emerge as a powerful voice for the Punjabis in the parliament at the national level.
Addressing the meetings Bharat Bhushan Ashu said, it was a privilege for the people of Ludhiana that a leader of Manish Tewari’s stature was going to represent them in the august house of the parliament. He assured that Manish would win this election by a massive margin.
Prominent among others who were present included Sunil Dat, Manju Yamin and others.
