LAMBI (MUKTSAR), January 28: Predicting a landslide victory for Congress in Punjab, Punjab Pradesh Congress Committee President Capt Amarinder Singh today said, party was tipped to win over 75 seats in the elections scheduled to be held on Monday. He said, a sweeping Congress wave had already built up in that is certain to uproot the Akali-BJP alliance government from the state.
Wrapping up his election campaign after addressing massive public meetings at Lambi, Nihal Singh Wala, Goniana Mandi (Bathinda), Talwandi Sabo and Rampura Phul today, Capt Amarinder said, there was a massive groundswell in support of Congress and it was being reflected across the state .
Addressing a strong crowd of over 20,000 people at Lambi, an assembly segment long represented by the Chief Minister Mr Parkash Singh Badal, from where he is trying his luck once again, the PCC President said, the overflowing crowds in the stadium today must have already declared their verdict in favour of the Congress candidate Mahesh Inder Singh Badal.
Appealing people to vote for the Congress candidate Mahesh Inder, he said, he was a gentleman with a neat and clean image unlike the other Badals. Asking them to give him a chance this time, he said, “you have given so many chances to Parkash Singh Badal and try this man now, who is honest, clean and reliable”. He expressed confidence that with such a huge gathering which had come in support of Mahesh Inder Singh Badal, it was clear that he was going to win this time.
Spelling out his agenda, he said, the top most priority of his government will be to create job avenues for about 47 lakh unemployed people in the state. He said, government cannot recruit so many people and for that the state needs to create an industry and investment friendly atmosphere which will lead to creation of jobs.
Questioning the development claims of the Akali-BJP government, Capt Amarinder said, the bullet trains they were showing in the advertisements were actually from Japan and the skyscrapers from Manhattan in the US. Besides, he asked, “does development mean adding seven lakh more families to an already existing 13 lakh families living below poverty line?”
At Talwandi Sabo, the PCC President told another strong crowd of about 20,000 people to ensure the victory of the party candidate Jeet Mohinder Singh Sidhu. He said, Jeet Mohinder was like his son and promised that once he is elected by the people he will be inducted into the government.
He said, people had suffered a lot during the last five years. He said, while the common masses had faced poor governance and maladministration, the Congress workers had suffered the atrocities, excesses and vendetta at the hands of the Akali goons. He promised that each and every case of vendetta will be cancelled, thoroughly probed and the guilty punished.
At Rampura Phul there was an unprecedented number of people who had come out to listen to him. While the Old Grain Market, called Patiala Mandi, was crammed to capacity, people had gone up to the rooftops to have a glimpse of Capt Amarinder and to listen to his speech. He promised the people that once they elect Gurpreet Kangar for the third term he will make him a minister.
He announced that for the first time in the history of the country crop insurance had been introduced in Punjab which will secure the crops of the farmers from unforeseen calamities. He said, the earlier practice of ordering girdawaris which hardly led to any aid to the farmers.
