By Hargun Jit Singh : The Punjab Government has issued detailed guidelines to the auto rickshaw drivers carrying children to schools. They have been directed to carry children as per the sitting capacity of their vehicles. They have also been warned against defying the government directive.
Stating this here today, a spokesman of the government said that it has came to the notice of the government that the auto rickshaw drivers were in the habit of defying the traffic rules while taking the children to schools with the result number of accidents occurred frequently.
The spokesman also urged the parents to resist using auto rickshaw for the children, because it is not a safe mode of transportation. But if they are left with no choice then they must ensure the proper implementation of the government’s directive to the rickshaw drivers in larger public interest.
The state transport department has also urged the enforcement agencies to ensure implementation of these guidelines in both letter and spirit so that accident could be averted. Adding further, he said that adequate action would be taken against the auto rickshaw driver found defying the direction given by the government.
