CHANDIGARH, August 26: Punjab Pradesh Congress Committee President Capt Amarinder Singh today appealed to Mr Anna Hazare to end his fast in the interest of the nation and the movement he was spearheading against the corruption. Capt Amarinder maintained that while it was important to take the movement to the logical conclusion, at the same time Mr Hazare’s health was a cause of concern for everybody across the country.
In an appeal to Mr Hazare, Capt Amarinder said, entire nation had acknowledged his contribution in bringing the issue of corruption to the forefront of the public discourse. He pointed out, the Prime Minister Dr Manmohan Singh had reiterated his commitment to bringing in a strong Lokpal in the country and the parliament had started the debate on the bill.The former Punjab Chief Minister maintained that Mr Hazare had stirred the nation’s conscience. At the same time, he pointed out, it was also important to acknowledge that Dr Manmohan Singh had shown unfailing commitment to weed out corruption from the government.
“People have been divested of their Ministerial and Chief Ministerial portfolios and some even put behind bars which shows the keenness and commitment of the government led by Dr Singh”, Capt Amarinder pointed out, while appealing Mr Hazare that he should have faith in the Prime Minister whose integrity was above board.
Capt Amarinder also reiterated his commitment that when Congress comes to power in Punjab it will strengthen the institution of Lok Ayukta and make it more strong and effective to ensure that it serves the desired purpose
