18th Nov. 2008 : “National Pharmacy Week” is being celebrated in Swami Vivekanand College of Pharmacy with full zeal and fervor at its SVIET campus in Ram Nagar, Banur. The theme for the Pharmacy Week this year is “Ask your Pharmacist for safe prescription drugs” The week is celebrated under the aegis of Indian Pharmaceutical Association. Swami Vivekanand College of Pharmacy is the institutional member of the association.
On the second day the institution organized a seminar on “Future Prospects of Graduate Pharmacists in Pharmaceutical Industry” in which experts from Pharmaceutical Industry from different departments of the pharmaceutical industry like Production, Quality control, Research and Development and Marketing delivered their talks related to their expertise. This seminar was organized by the Placement cell of the institution.
The speakers during the day long seminar were Mr. Anil Arora, Vice President (Works), Piramal Healthcare. Baddi, Mr. Dinesh Singla, Deputy General Manager, Research and Development, Panacea Biotec Ltd., Lalru, Mr. Ashok Rawal, Manager, Quality Control, Medoz Pharmaceuticals Ltd. Baddi and Mr. Puneet Vasishata, Regional Manager, Micro Labs.
The seminar was inaugurated by the Chairman of the group Mr. Ashwani Garg and CEO, Mr. Manmohan Garg. In inaugural address Mr. Manmohan Garg, CEO of the group said that “interaction with the industry experts is of immense importance for the educational institutions because professional education not lays in the books but in the practicals and the amount and quality of practical knowledge the industry people have is matchless.” Earlier Prof. I.K. Kataria, Managing Director in his address welcomed the speakers and Principal Dr. Sanjay Bajaj introduced the speakers to the audience. In the end vote of thanks was presented by Ms. Jyoti Manchanda, Chief coordinator for National Pharmacy Activities and Lecturer and Training and Placement Officer in Swami Vivekanand College of Pharmacy.
In the inaugural session Mr. Anil Arora, Piramal Healthcare, gave a brief account of the current scenario prevalent in the pharmaceutical industry with reference to the Baddi industry and touched the job profile and expectations of the head of various departments of an industry. He especially appraised the students of the working of a production unit of pharmaceutical industry. In the second session Mr. Dinesh Singla from Panacea Biotec, Lalru and Mr. Ashok Rawal spoke respectively on the working, job profile and requirements in R&D as well as in Quality control departments. In the last session, Mr. Puneet Vasishata, Micro Labs gave a detailed presentation upon the Pharmaceutical marketing, role of a Medical representative, expectations of the managers, skills required and who should opt for marketing. He stressed upon the need for better communication skills and product knowledge to be a successful pharmaceutical sales person.
Earlier on the first day of the Pharmacy week, Swami Vivekanand College of Pharmacy organized a POSTER MAKING Competition, GROUP DISCUSSION and SLOGAN WRITING competition on the theme of Pharmacy Week on November 18, 2008. The institute has planned a week long activities to celebrate the Pharmacy Week from November 16-22, 2008.
