Jammu, June 12: Department of Arboriculture and Landscaping, University of Jammu today launched the rejuvenated Drive Green for Campus Beautification. Prof. Amitabh Mattoo, Vice-Chancellor University of Jammu inaugurated and launched the drive green campaign by planting a sapling in the University campus.All the senior officials of the University including the Dean Academic Affairs, Rectors, Deans, Heads, Coordinator Campuses, Faculty members, members of the non teaching staff, staff of the Department of Arboriculture and Landscaping and Research Scholars of various Departments were present at the function.
Speaking on the occasion, Prof. Amitabh Mattoo said that climate change is becoming the defining issue of our era. "This is time when communities will have to focus on greenhouse gas emissions and the ways to reduce them," he said and added that it is important to give human face to environmental issues and empower people to become active agents of sustainable and equitable development.
Prof. Mattoo declared that University of Jammu shall henceforth be a polythene free zone. He urged upon all the stakeholders including the faculty, staff, students, scholars and visitors to avoid bringing polythene bags within the University Campus.
Vice Chancellor complimented the officers and the staff of the Department of Arboriculture and Landscaping for their painstaking working and putting in effort to make the campus green. He further stressed upon that the Jammu University Campus should come up as one of the most beautiful University Campuses in the country.
Prof. Keshav Sharma, Convener, Campus Beautification informed that under the able leadership and vision of the Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Amitabh Mattoo, the Department of Arboriculture and Landscaping has taken various new initiatives to make the entire campus green. Recently all the equipments of the department have been modernized and the department has been made computerized for the efficient working. "The entire team of the department is working very hard to realize the vision of the Prof. Amitabh Mattoo," he said
Prof. Keshav Sharma further urged upon all the departments to ensure that the surroundings around their departments are green and clean.
