Chief Election Commissioner V S Sampat on Sunday visited Himachal Pradesh to take stock of preparations for Assembly polls slated for 4th November.
This was his first visit to the state after announcement of poll schedule.
He held meetings with officials, security forces and representatives of political parties in Shimla.
Talking to media persons in Shimla, the Chief Election Commissioner expressed satisfaction over the preparations being made for the conduct of free and fair election.
He said that some complaints have been received from the representatives of political parties which were looked into and asked the Deputy Commissioners to strictly implement the election code of conduct for free and fair elections.
Referring to complaints of large-scale appointments, re-employment and extension granted to some employees, the CEC said “we will certainly look into the matter.”
“We will interfere in case the concerned employee is directly involved in the polling process and take appropriate action,” he said.
The Commission would also look into complaints about posting of certain officers with doubtful integrity in some districts, Sampath said.
“With the initiative of the Commission, 97 per cent voters have been registered. The number of newly-enrolled voters in the 18-19 age group has gone above 80 per cent”, he said.
The 68-member Himachal assembly will go to polls on November four and the counting of the votes will take place on December 20.
