7 Feb : Due to the immense popularity of the Mela and so as to manage the enormous crowd efficiently on weekends and holidays, the Surajkund Crafts Mela Authorities have decided to change its closing timings from 7:30pm to 8:00pm for the remaining weekend of the Mela. The ticket counters will also remain open till 8:00 pm on Saturdays, Sundays and holidays for the convenience of its visitors.
The Mela grounds saw more than 1.25 lakhs of visitors till 5pm today which was a record of its kind during any Surajkund Crafts Mela. The parking lots wore a look of a parking shed with an aerial view suggesting that the vehicles were parked in the acres of land. The challenge to manage the crowd was immense, but the District Administration and the Surajkund Crafts Mela Authority succeeded in managing the show so effectively that there was a smile on the face of the visitors.
A record number of foreign tourists were seen roaming in the grounds of the Mela. Approximately 7000 foreign tourists reached Surajkund to see the splendor of this mega event.
“How could Surajkund Mela Authority manage the parking of thousands of visitors and cater to their needs?” commented Mr Nihalsomawaree, Ministry of Rural Industries of Sri Lanka.
The day also witnessed a gala performance by Jaspal Bhatti, the comedy king who enthralled the visitors with his tickling comedy. Jaspal Bhatti is a household Indian television personality. The visitors roared in laughter to his satirical takes and jokes and left the Mela with a broad smile on their faces.
