Chandigarh, Oct 24 –Education especially in government schools in Haryana has always been in the fire range of public. In a bid to improve the quality of education in government schools, the Haryana Government has introduced monthly assessment system of students from Class 1 to plus two. The step of state government has started paying dividends.
The official spokesman of the government while talking to media said that under the system students were being evaluated on the basis of question papers based on the conventional pattern as well as activity-based learning including methods of internal assessment. He added that from this academic session onwards, the question papers for September and March would be prepared by the Haryana Directorate of School Education and other related tests would be conducted by respective teachers. Headmaster and head teacher of each school have been assigned responsibility of smooth conducting of these tests, he said.
Even the senior officer upto the level of Administrative secretaries would conduct regular inspections of government schools to ensure discipline and regular attendance of teachers apart from assessing the academic learning levels of students. Each officers have been asked to carry out at least two inspections per month and district education officers (DEOs) and block education officers (BEOs) have to carry out four inspections per week. “The system has resulted in a drastic increase in regularity, discipline in schools besides improve in learning levels of the students,” says the official.
He added that in order to inculcate professionalism among teachers, monitor their teaching activities and teaching pattern, keep record of their day-to-day activities and maintain better parent-teacher interaction, Teacher’s Diary has been introduced and enforced in all the schools throughout the State. Parents and senior officers can use these diaries to monitor the plan of topics to be taught in the class in advance, apart from the record of students in various activities.
All Principals and school heads have been directed to check Teacher’s Diary on a daily basis and all other senior officers are also monitoring this recording of diary by all the teachers to ensure improvement in the level of education, better planning by teachers, better monitoring of officers and even better interaction between teachers and parents, he said.
The government has also moved to digitally empowered organizations including monthly online test monitoring system, annual performance report of teachers. “Parivartan” a project focusing on developing a better information collection system and preparation of software for online admission system has been put to place.
Apart from this, a special campaign was launched to clear all kinds of complaints, including those of the public regarding their works in the Education Department, the spokesman said. Emphasis was also given to clear all kinds of backlog of Assured Career Progression (ACP), medical claims, loans, extension cases and other pending cases of all employees, retirees and other stakeholders so as to redress their grievances.
