Chandigarh, Oct 10- Haryana Excise and Taxation Department has collected Rs 8499.81 crore as revenue upto August 2012 during the current financial year as against Rs 7277.18 crore collected in the corresponding period previous year thus recording an increase of 16.80 per cent.
This was revealed in a review meeting of Haryana Excise and Taxation Department held under the Chairmanship of Haryana Chief Minister, Mr. Bhupinder Singh Hooda here today.
Reviewing the achievements of the department, Mr. Hooda expressed satisfaction that tax collection of the State was much better as compare to other states.
Mr. Hooda while issuing directions to the concerned officers said that the department should be restructured in such a manner that revenue achievements could be increased. Mr. Hooda also issued directions to the officials to computerize the department as early as possible so that the present system of revenue collection could be further improved.
It was informed in the meeting that during last three years continuous increase in VAT collection has been recorded. Similarly, in excise collection, commendable increase has been recorded as it has doubled during the last three years.
In the meeting Excise and Taxation Minister, Mrs. Kiran Choudhry apprised the Chief Minister that upto August 2012, Rs 6130.45 crore has been collected as VAT which is 19.66 per cent more as against Rs 5123.31 crore collected upto August 2011-12. Similarly, as compare to previous year, Central Sales Tax (CST) has increased upto 5.26 per cent whereas an increase of 11.94 per cent has been recorded in excise tax collection.
Regarding CST compensation claim made by the State Government to the Central Government, Mr. Hooda director Chief Secretary, Mr. P.K. Chaudhery to take up this matter with Central Revenue Secretary. Mr. Hooda also directed to hold a meeting with representatives of Chamber of Commerce on issues related to tax collection system.

Doon, Principal Secretary, Finance Mr. Sanjeev Kaushal, Principal Secretary, Excise and Taxation Department, Mr. Rajan Gupta and Commissioner, Excise and Taxation Department, Mr. Anurag Rastogi were also present in the meeting.
