Planning Commission Changed the Foreign Travel Expenditure of Montek : RTI

By GOPAL PRASAD( RTI Activist) : An  RTI reply by the Under Secretary Planning Commission, Sunita Beck confirmed that the expenditure of Rs.1,04,011 towards foreign travel (China –Japan , 21-29 April, 2007) of Shri Montek Singh Ahluwalia ,Deputy chairman Planning Commission is shown inadvertenly due to typographic error. The expenditure actually incurred on on this visit is Rs.4,19,422 only. This RTI  originally filed by  Delhi based RTI Activist Gopal Prasad  seeking information on various issues relating to expenditure incurred  on the foreign travel , Pay & Perks  of members of Planning Commission .

As per the guidelines  issued by the PMO regarding Pay, Perquisites, Status etc applicable to members, Planning Commission from all walks of life have two options  i.e. pay(less pension in case of retired officials),Dearness Allowance and perks of Secretary to the Govt. of India  and status of Minister of State(MOS)  or  Pay, Daily Allowance Perks and Status applicable to an MOS plus pension(without dearness relief ) in case of retired  officials.

Pro. Abhijit sen , Centre for Economic Studies  and Planning , School of Social Sciences , JNU, New Delhi  who assumed charge as Member Planning Commission  opted for the pay  of Rs. 80,000and dearness allowance Rs. 80,000 and other perquisites as applicable to secretary to the Govt of India . Residence on payment of licence  fee , Medical Facilities- CGHS and reimbursement etc as per CS (MA)Rules,1944, TA/DA, Leave and Leave Salary calculated @11% of his basic pay plus dearness pay , CPF @12.5% of his basic pay , PF contribution minimum @10% of his basic pay to be deducted from his salary, LTC , staff car and personal staff.

Expenditure incurred  on printing of Annual Report  in Hindi and English are  Rs. 13,34857   during the period 2007-12 .
