Delhi : The International Day for the Eradication of Poverty is being observed today. The 2015 observance of the International Day for the Eradication of Poverty is a special one, as it comes on the heels of the adoption of the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development.
The Agenda, which succeeds the Millennium Development Goals, contains 17 new and ambitious goals – foremost among them, is to “end poverty in all its forms everywhere”.
According to the president of the World Bank Group, Jim Yong Kim, the world is capable of ending global poverty in the next 15 years if countries make tough decisions to enact reforms that will spur growth.
He also stressed that nations must also invest in their people and provide insurance so citizens don’t fall back into poverty.
He was speaking in Ghana’s capital of Accra to mark the International Day for the Eradication of Poverty.
