New Delhi,9 May:The Government of Karnataka had submitted The Sustainable Forest Management and Biodiversity Conservation Project to the Union Government for development of forests in the State. This project is being implemented in all the districts of Karnataka with the loan assistance from the Japan Bank for International Cooperation (JBIC). The total sanctioned cost of the Project is Rs.745 crore including Rs.131.734 crore as State share. An amount of rs. 34.532 crore has been disbursed by the JBIC till 23rd June, 2006.
Under the programme activities such as afforestation, income generation activities for poverty alleviation, protected area management and biodiversity conservation, provision of basic infrastructure support for field work and other supporting activities for forest management have been included. The Projects period is 2005-06 to 2012-13. The Project is already approved and is being implemented as per schedule
