Chandigarh 4th March: Today the State unit of Bharatiya Janata Yuva Morcha, Chandigarh held protest demonstration against the ban on Indian Hockey Player Shivender Singh. The demonstration was addressed by State BJP President Sh. Sanjay Tandon, State General Secretaries S. Satinder Singh & Sh. Arun Sood and other Yuva Morcha leaders.
The protesters highlighted the high headedness of Tournament Director Ken Read in imposing a 3 match ban on Shivender Singh. It has been established by the appellate committee that the incident that happened in the India-Pakistan match on Sunday was in-advertent and there was nothing deliberate on part of Shivender Singh. No one had complained about it either from the Pakistan team and neither any match referee took cognizance of it and therefore this unilateral decision of Ken Read was totally uncalled for. It was further highlighted that even the decision of the appellate committee was biased as despite terming the incident as inadvertent, it only reduced the sentence to a 2 match ban instead of 3, rather than completely setting aside the decision of Ken Read.
The Yuva Morcha members held that this seems to be an apparent discrimination against Indians by foreigners, who want to dominate the game by such illegal means.
