17 DECEMBER 2010 : Vivek High School, Chandigarh is hosting its first ever International Model United Nations Conference, the VHSMUN 2010, on 17, 18 and 19 December.
Vivek High has been an active member of the MUN community and has attended various
conferences on local, national and international levels such as the St. John’s MUN, Doon
School MUN in Dehradun and the Boston University MUN in Beijing. The school has an
active MUN Club mentored by Ms Vandana Choubey which holds many MUN simulations
throughout the year.
In Model UN, students step into the shoes of ambassadors from UN member states to
debate current issues on the organization’s agenda. Students make speeches, prepare
draft resolutions, negotiate with allies and adversaries, resolve conflicts, and navigate the conference rules of procedure – all in the interest of mobilizing “international cooperation” to resolve problems that afflict countries all over the world.
The school’s motto ‘Knowledge and Integrity’ well reflects the aims of the VHSMUN, which
are to promote overall growth, cooperation and skills in the areas of research, writing
and debate. By providing students a platform to voice concerns through insightful and
stimulating dialogue, Vivek High hopes to expand the scope of knowledge and facilitate an
understanding of the mechanics of international relations and politics.
The VHSMUN 2010 will be attended by 20 delegations and 130 delegates. Apart from tri-city schools, seven outstation schools from Bangladesh, New Delhi, Gurgaon, Dehradun,Ludhiana, Patiala and Bathinda will also be attending. Our endeavour is to provide them
with a sound committee structure and a stimulating academic environment, so as to best
enable them to benefit from the experience.
Vivek High School is also holding a press conference for the VHSMUN 2010 at 2:00pm on Thursday, December 16 in the school library.
