Manoj Godara, Chandigarh, february 19, 2010:The three month 92 postgraduate certificate course in the Teaching of English concluded today at the Regional Institute of English. 43 teacher trainees from the states of Punjab, Haryana, Himachal pradesh and Jammu & Kashmir were trained in various issues related to the teaching and learning of English. Aiming at promoting learning autonomy in students from rural and tribal areas with recent developments in methodology of teaching English, the course concentrated on Methods of teaching English,Grammar and usage, Phonetics and Phonology, Linguistics, Communication skills and Research and Methodology.
Speaking on the occasion, the former director of RIE, Mrs H. Vasudeva addressed the government school teacher trainees to move away from the usual techniques of teaching.She threw light on the necessity to focus on activity based learning techniques in the methods of their teaching.
Certificates of excellence were awarded to all the meritorious participants.
