Chandigarh,Sanjay Pahwa: Department of Higher Education of UT Administration organized a Two Day Workshop on E-Content Development for NMEICT on 17th and 18th May in the Post Graduate Government College for Girls, Sec-11, Chandigarh . The Workshop was of Principal Investigators and Co-Investigators who have presented their proposals for e-content development on curriculum-related topics to NMEICT at New Delhi. The mission aims at “anytime-anywhere learning” through Information and Communication Technology.
More than eighty delegates from Government colleges of the city participated in the Workshop. Eminent speakers related to the field guided them on various facets and dimensions of E-content development. Prof. C.G. Mahajan, Dept. of Physics, IISER Mohali, MGSIPAP Complex, Sec-26, Chandigarh, Prof. Uma Kanjilal, Director, School of Social Sciences and Professor of Libraries and Information Sciences, IGNOU, Ms. Swati Samadda, Adobe-Regional Head, Education and Mr. Venkatesh Sharma, Director, Techno-Marketing, Virtual Studios, Delhi were the Resource-persons on the occasion.
On the first day of the Workshop the delegates were introduced to instructional design and 4-quadrant approach for content development and an overview of open source tools for multi-media content creation was presented. This was followed by hands on practice for e-content development using Wiki, eXe, Audacity, CamStudio, video capturing and editing tools etc. The delegates then engaged in Group activities for content development on identified topics.
On the second day a discussion and demonstration on different Adobe® products and effective classroom integration was organized which was highly interactive and many doubts of the participants were ably clarified. Another meaningful exercise was guidance about organization and collection of information, collaboration on documents and portfolios, and collection and feedback with Acrobat Professional. The delegates also learnt about ‘How to create high-quality on-demand presentations without special training with Adobe Presenter software.’ To make classroom teaching more exciting and for engaging the students, the delegates were introduced to the effectiveness of powerful visuals, audio, video and animation using Adobe Photoshop Elements and Adobe Premiere Elements.
It is worth mentioning that UT Administration has taken the lead in the e-literacy project of Govt. of India. This project aims at increasing at least 5% literacy in the country during the current 5-year plan period. It is noteworthy that as many as 35 e-content proposals of Government colleges under UT Higher Education Department have been accepted and necessary funds for the same have been earmarked. The credit for this exercise goes to Sh. Ajoy Sharma, IAS, Director Higher Education, UT Administration, Chandigarh who is spearheading the initiative and taking personal interest to guarantee the success of this mission.
