The India Post, Chandigarh, 5th July, 2008:At the Annual Jamun Day celebrations at the Nature Observatory Sector 26 and Nature Discovery commonwealth Youth Programme, Asia Centre Sector 12, about 160 students from four schools relished season’s Nature Gift the Jamun(Black Berry).
Both boys and girls came from Govt. Model Senior School, 46-D, Govt. Model High School,Sector 11 Govt. Model Sr.Sec. School, Sector 32 and Moti Ram Sr.Sec.School Pkl.
The Jamun Day is celebrated by the Environment Society of India (ESI) Chandigarh to encourage students not only to plant but also to eat Jamun fruit as this fruit controls Diabetes and help in improvement of digestion.
Dr. R.C. Mishra, Dy.Inspector General of Police Haryana was the Chief Guest at the Nature Observatory . In his address to students said that it is sad that the younger generation has forgotten this fruit.Loking at the qualities of Jamun fruit ranks number one and should be planted everywhere. E.S.I.president Dr. S.K.Sharma said that the Jamun is sold at very high price that is Rs,60 to Rs 80 per kg. If more and more plants are planted the prices will go down and it will be available to every citizen
Mr. Om Parkash Co-ordinator of the programme said that efforts should be made to plant Jamun trees in maximum educational Institutions.
