Chandigarh, May 25th: The Home Secretary-cum-Secretary Food & Supplies and Consumer Affairs, Union Territory, Chandigarh convened a meeting of the staff of the Food & Supplies Department here today. The Secretary issued directions that on receipt of the tank lorry of kerosene at the kerosene pump, the stocks may be decanted in the presence of the concerned S.D.M./Additional Deputy Commissioner/Inspector Food & Supplies and members of the Vigilance Committee.In order to check the pilferage of essential commodities being distributed to the targeted population under Public Distribution System in the Union Territory of Chandigarh, it was decided that on receipt of stocks at the fair price shops, the stocks will be physically checked by the concerned S.D.M./Additional Deputy Commissioner/Inspector Food & Supplies and members of the Vigilance Committee before the start of its sale.
The Home Secretary issued strict instructions that in no case, the depot holder or the kerosene dealer will be allowed to retain ration cards with them. Strict action against the defaulters will be taken under the provisions of law. The Food & Supplies Department has made available complaint/suggestion book at all the fair price shops and kerosene dealers functioning in Chandigarh and the card holders registered their can lodge their complaint and give suggestion therein.
It was also directed to install CCTV cameras at the Provision Receipt Centre. The SDMs were also directed to make surprise inspections of PDS shops.
