Chandigarh, Sanjay Pahwa : Science Olympiad Foundation (SOF), India’s leading registered non-profit educational organization, will start its Olympiad-2011 from Chandigarh. The organisation has announced Scholarship programme for the girl child. SOF will organize State level Award Functions throughout the country starting from Chandigarh.Mr.Mahabir Singh, Executive Director, SOF India sayes, “Looking at the enthusiastic response from schools, students and parents, we are organizing our state level Olympiad 2011-12 in addition to the Annual National Awards Function in all major states of the country. Through such activities, we want to encourage and motivate participation across the country. Many students stand out with brilliance and hard working, but are unable to make it to the International level recognition. We will be falicitating the top students, Principals and Teachers from distinguished schools of every zone.”SOF will also launch Girl Child Scholarship programme to motivate the academically inclined but financially weaker girls. It wants parents to look forward to such competitive programmes for their daughters and encourage them to prepare and participate in the same. 75 needy girls will be provided with a scholarship amounting to Rs 18,000/- each for their education for a full year. Nominations for these scholarships will be received from schools and 75 most deserving children selected for grant of scholarship.
The foundation will honour students and teachers alike. The prizes for the class 7 to 12 will be Rs 1 lakh (first), Rs 50,000 (second) and Rs 25,000 (third). Laptops of different variety will be given to the winners of class 1 to 6th. Around 1,20,000 School Topper Medals will be distributed to class toppers of each school. Similarly, the best teacher and best principal awards will also be given.
Established in 1998 by leading academicians, scientists and media personalities with the aim of popularizing Science, Mathematics, Computer and English education, the Science Olympiad Foundation (SOF) has been striving to promote scientific attitude through innovative activities and use of IT in learning process that involve school students across the globe. It is in the sphere of qualitative and quantitative assessment that the SOF has been engaged in over the years.
Starting with Science, SOF has added Mathematics, Computers and English to it’s range of Olympiad exams. The popularity and acceptance of the Olympiad exams has grown over the last decade – for the year 2010-11, close to 20 lacs students from over 14000 schools across 950 cities appeared for the Olympiad exams. Countries from SAARC, Middle East and SE Asia also participate in the Olympiad exams, giving them an International recognition.
