CHANDIGARH- February 27, 2010: Panjab University celebrated Science Day to commemorate the illustrious scientist Sir C.V. Raman, a Nobel Laureate in Physics, for inventing ‘The Raman Effect’ at P.U. Campus here today. The celebration was held under the name of “BIO-NOCK 2010” at the Mathematics Auditorium, P.U. The function was inaugurated by Prof. R.C. Sobti, Vice-Chancellor. He exhorted the students to inculcate and imbibe Science Culture in their routine lives. He further mentioned that the Panjab University has been popularizing science from 1991. His explicit address dwelt upon the myriad vistas of science progress since archival times.
The occasion was also marked by a special lecture by Prof. K. Muralidhar, a Fellow of Delhi, Allahabad and Bangalore Academies from University of Delhi, on “Nature of Science and Careers in Science and Technology”. He explained that science is a holy passion and
not some job or career.
Various competitions like “Imagination and Innovation Unlimited”, Captain Contest, Collage Making, Ad-Mad Show, Model Display and Extempore were held. As many as 90 participants from various colleges and schools participated. The winners were Karan
Goyal (Imagination and Innovation Unlimited), Surveen and Loveleen (Collage Making),Stin (Caption Contest), Parminder, Ratinka, Mukul and Varun (Ad-Mad Show), Shatakshee (Extempore) and Aman Mahajan, Munzes Domla and Shefali Chadha (Model Exhibits).
The function was organized by Dr. Neena Capalash, Dept. of Bio-technology and Dr. Rajat Sandhir, Dept. of Biochemistry.
