Sanjay Sardana, Director of manav mangal Smart School, Mohali and Principal of Manav Mangal High School, Chandigarh was awarded the ‘CBSE National Award 2008’ in New Delhi on Teacher’s Day. The award was presented to him by Sh. Kapil Sibal, Hon’ble Union Minister for Human Resource Development, Govt. of India. Sh. Sibal was accompanied by Hon’ble Union Minister of State for Human Resource Development, Smt. D.Purandeswari and CBSE Chairman, Sh. Vineet Joshi. The felicitation function was organized today to honour 14 eminent personalities in the field of education in the hall of Indian Institute of Public Administration , Indraprastha Estate , Near Delhi.
The award has been conferred upon Principal Sardana by CBSE in public recognition of his valuable and commendable services rendered to the community for the cause of education as a Principal of outstanding merit. The award comprised of a Certificate of Commendation, Cash award of Rs.25,000/- and a shawl.
Principal Sardana is already a State Awardee when Advisor to Administrator, Sh.R.S.Gujral honoured him on Teacher’s Day during 2003. He is the proud recipient of Lions International Academy Award conferred on him in Hong Kong by Lions Clubs International, USA for his contribution in various service projects of social utility.His innovative idea of opening up of a unique Hi-tech institution, Manav Mangal Smart School in Mohali was highly applauded by His Excellency, Gen(Retd.) S.F.Rodrigues on Feb.10, 2007. Recently he has set up an evening school ‘Gyan’ for the underprivileged students in which 108 students are getting entirely free education. Principal Sardana who takes upon his father Mr. G.S. Sardana as his mentor said that the award was an indication of the growing responsibility handed over to him to move ahead and contribute more in field of education.
Shri Vineet Joshi , Chairman CBSE welcomed the chief guest and informed that CBSE National Award were constituted in 2000 to promote innovative ideas in the field of education. Addressing the gathering, Chief guest Sh.Kapil Sibal reminded the teachers and the awardees of the challenges the teaching profession has especially in India. He said that the need of the day was that the teachers should learn, de-learn and the re-learn as the technology and methodology was fast changing. According to him we have to prepare citizens of future India who are complete in all respects – socially as well as morally . That is why the education need to undergo a drastic change . He announced that CBSE’s continuous comprehensive evaluation (CCE) was the need of the day and we should do away with the ROTE learning promoted because of exiting examination system.. However CCE system demanded much more from the teachers as it would be refining the scholastic and non scholastic skills of children . He announced that Her Excellency , President of India had recently given her nod to the right to education bill. He concluded by saying that the 14 jewels who were receiving the award today needed to be more responsible towards their assignments and India needed to replicate the work of these 14 jewels to move ahead in the field of education.
