Sanjay Pahwa, Chandigarh : Right to Information (RTI) Act brings the common people in the main stream of developmentbesides bringing transparency in the governance. This was stated by Smt. Anuradha Chagti,Director, Department of Personnel & Training, Ministry of Personnel, PG& Pension, New Delhi while presiding over days Orientation/workshop on awareness generation on ‘Right to Information Act’ heretoday. The workshop was organized bySong & Drama Division under the Ministry of Information & Broadcasting,Government of India in collaboration with Ministry of Personnel, PublicGrievance & Pension Department of Personnel &Training, Government of India & State Information Commission, Punjab.
Smt.Chagti further said that Depart of Personnel & Training is giving thrust onreaching out RTI to the rural areas. Forthis DOPT has activated young motivators to guide the people for using RTIproperly. She said that RTI is not any ordinary scheme of the governmentbut is an Act which ensures information sought by the stakeholder. Highlightingthe significance of RTI Logo she said that the symbol of Information Officerand Transparent paper shown in the picture could be understood by theilliterate people also. This Right canbe used to get information from any government-non- government sector by any one without any barrier of age, caste or religion. However, information cannot besought from the organizations identified under Section 24.
She advised the participating troupes of artists that they must guided the massesto adopt a constructive and positive approach while using RTI and it should notbe misused for personal grudges.
Speaking on the occasion, Shri Baljit Singh, Assistant Director, Song & DramaDivision, Chandigarh said that the objective of the workshop is to sensitize the 23private registered troupes on Right to Information Act-2005 with a view to spread awareness in the various parts of area. He informed that thetrained private registered troupes will be deployed forspreading the awareness through cultural programmes in the districts of Punjab upto March 31, 2012. The artists gave their presentation on thetheme of RTI through cultural performances like Song, Dance, Drama, Qwalli,Magic and Puppet show.
