Chandigarh, May 9:Rotary Club of Chandigarh, as a part of its Golden Jubilee celebration, took 50 children from Bal Bahar School of Bapu Dham Colony, Sector 26, Chandigarh, on a joy ride on city’s tourism bus.The children from economically challenged backgrounds of nursery and UKG classes are being provided free education by a Rotarian couple of the Club, Major B.M. Singh and Mrs. Kiran, informed President of the Club, Rtn. Arvind Mehan.
Rotary International President Elect, Mr. D.K.Lee, who was in the city for the Rotary Club’s 50 years of service, reached the Peace monument on Sukhna Lake, and spent time with the children as they rode the Hop On-Hop Off bus of Chandigarh Tourism.
Mr. Lee accompanied with the former Rotary International President Rajendra K. Saboo, District Governor Shaju Peter, District Governor Elect Satish Saluja, Past District Governors Dr. R.S. Parmar, Kawal Bedi, and others exchanged greetings with the children and distributed refreshment packs to them.
President Elect Lee earlier visited the Rs.3.5 crore Rotary and Blood Bank Society Blood Resource Centre in Sector 37, and later met with 30 Rotarians undergoing Rotary District Leadership Academy workshop in the UT Guest House, as also visited the Rotary House in Sector 18.
He was all commendation for the Rotary Club’s impressive community service projects and hoped that the next 50 years shall be equally eventful and meaningful for the society.
