CHANDIGARH, AUG 13 :Deadly bowling spell by Parminder Singh (4 for 12) enabled Punjab snatched an exciting 20-run victory over Jharkhand in the opening pool C match of the National Inter-State Under-15 Cricket Championship being conducted by Cricket Federation of Tamil Nadu at Maya Jaal Ground in Chennai today.
According to information received from Chennai, Jharkhand were dismissed for 89 in reply to Punjab’s total of 109 for 8 in 22 overs. Only Asif could face the Punjab bowlers with some confidence and made a defiant 26. Besides Parminder, Punjab’s other successful bowlers were Anish (2 for 18) and Sidharth (2 for 9).
Earlier, Punjab piled up 109 for 8 in 22 overs, Jaydep Bose (25), Siddharath (18) and Ravi Pandey (16 not out) were their principal scorers. Jharkhand’s Abhishek (3 for 17) and Arif Khan (2 for 19) was the main wicket-takers.
Gujarat defeated Chennai by 73 runs in their group D match. The highlight of Gujarat’s innings was a strokeful 76 by Harsh A Gujarat scored 144 for 5 in 25 overs. Jignesh (26) and Vikram Chaudhary (22) also made valuable contributions. In reply, Chennai were dismissed for 71 in 18.1 overs. Dinesji (3 for 10) and Kunal (3 for 10) restructed Chennai to 71.
A depleted Delhi team were routed by Cricket Federation of India by 10 wickets. CFI made 25 without any loss in reply to Delhi’s 24 all out. M. Naveen of CFI wrecked Delhi with a spell of 5 for 4.
Earlier, B.P. Kailash, president, Cricket Federation of Tamil Nadu, inaugurated the tournament.
Before start of the opening match a two-minute silence was observed in memory of Mani Vannan, an office bearer of Cricket Federation of Tamil Nadu and Cricket Federation of Tamil Nadu, who was killed in a road accident on August 11.
