CHANDIGARH, AUG 11 : Down by one set Niklesh rallied to record a 1-6, 6-4, 6-2 win over Vikas in the boys under-14 singles first-round match in the AITA Talent Series Tennis Tournament being played at the CLTA Stadium in Sector 10 here today.
Talwinder lost the first set at 1-6 before bouncing back into the game and went on to defeat Amitanjy 1-6 6-1 6-1 in another boys under-14 singles first-round outing. Himanshu failed to justify his wild card entry as Atul Patel won in straight sets 6-2, 6-1. However, wild card Kamal Kishore of Rajasthan scored a hard-fought victory over Garvit Batra 7-6 (6) and 7-5. Fatehdeep Singh of Punjab proved too good as he advanced to the next round without dropping even a single game to Andrew 6-0 6-0.
Keen contests were witness in the girls under-14 singles first round matches. Silky put up a stiff resistance and stretched her opponent Deeksha to three sets before going down fighting. Deeksha just managed to pip Silky at 7-6 (4) 4-6 7-5. Vanshika extended Harman to three sets before bowing out at 6-3, 2-6, 4-6. Asan Abdul got the better of Anukriti by 5-7, 6-1, 6-4 and Dhriti defeated Tanvi 3-6, 6-4, 6-3.
Rain prevented play in the boys and girls under-18 sections. The matches could start only after 5.30 p.m.
