Barinder Saluja, Chandigarh ,May 28: The INTACH Chapter of Chandigarh (Indian National Trust for Arts Cultural & Heritage) today morning organized a Heritage Walk from Open Hand complex to Rock Garden, in which large number of men, women and children participated. Mr Raj Chengappa, Editor-in-Chief, The Tribune flagged off the Heritage Walk.After reaching the Rock Garden Mr. Chengappa and Mr. VK Kapoor IPS.(Retd.), former DGP, Haryana & Chairman Chandigarh Chapter of INTACH honored 85 year old veteran creator of the world-fame Rock Garden Mr. Nek Chand. Mr Vivek Attray, Additional Transport commissioner Haryana, Mr JS Cheema, Mr SK Kakkar, IAS (Retd.), Mr RK Taneja, IAS (Retd.), Dr. Ashok Gupta, prominent Eye Surgeon of Panchkula, Mr Sanjeev Tiwari former DPR, PU., Prof. Abhishek Joshi, Mr D.S. Kapoor, Principal Art College and Mr Arun Johar, Joint Director, Information and Public Relation Department Haryana were also present on the occasion.
Speaking on the occasion Mr. Nek Chand appealed to the youth to devote themselves whole heartily for any creative work which can bring laurels to them, like him. He said that we should not consider anything as a waste material because he started the work on a dream with waste material and today it is known as Rock Garden in the world. He said that several countries had invited him to create Rock Garden in their capital.
Mr V.K. Kapoor, Chairman INTACH Chandigarh, while speaking on the occasion said that INTACH was working for the protection of heritage, art and culture. Our motto is to boost the morale of the young generation so that they should take interest in protecting their culture and social values.
On this occasion on-the spot a painting completion was also held on the theme of Rock Garden and cultural Heritage, in which more 32 youngsters participated. A cash prize of Rs 1000 each was also given to the five winners by Mr Nek Chand, Creator of the Rock Garden.
The Participants of the Heritage Walk also interacted with Mr. Raj Chengappa and Mr. Nek Chand during a brief get together in the Rock Garden, while enjoying the south dishes.
