CHANDIGARH, AUG 8 :A fine hat-trick by Mohit paved the way for Shivalik Public School of Mohali rout St Peter’s School, Sector 37 in the second round of the under-14 category on a rain-ruined second day of the St Xavier’s Six-A-Side Soccer Tournament at the St Xavier’s School ground in Sector 71 in Mohali here today.
Mohit completed his three-in-row feat by scoring in the third, fourth and fifth minutes. Rajbir and Simran added one goal each in the 9th and 12th minutes, respectively, to swell the winners’ tally.
Abhijeet also scored a hat-trick as St Anne’s School outplayed New Public School, Sector 18 by 4-0. Abhijeet netted in the second, fifth and seventh minutes. Danish completed the winners’ tally in the 15th minute.
Riding high on the braces by Sachit (5th, 9th minutes) and Dasmesh (16th and 20th minutes) helped St Kabir School of Sector 26 rout Stepping Stones by 4-0.
In yet another prequarter-final match, Chandigarh Baptish School prevailed over Vivek High School by 4-2. Varinder (5th, 12th, 21st) and Paritosh (8th) were the goal-getters for Chandigarh Baptish School.
Meanwhile, with rain playing a spoilsport, the remaining matches were washed out. At the St Xavier’s School, Sector 44 in Chandigarh where Under-12 and Under-19 competitions are held, rain prevented any play today.
Announcing the new schedule, Principal Mervyn West said that the matches would now be played from Monday as the rain had rendered the ground unplayable.
