MCM DAV College hosted its 39th Annual Convocation Ceremony today. The college has accomplished the rare feat of having 841 fresh graduates and post graduates this year, of which 688 first division holders were awarded degrees at the momentous occasion. 27 students received their degrees in MA English, 33 in MA Sociology, 222 in BA Hons., 214 in BA, 72 in B Com. Hons, 58 in B. Com, 49 in BCA, 47 in Post graduate Diploma courses, 26 in B Sc MFT and 93 in B.Sc (Vocational, Food Science Medical and Non Medical). Smt. Geeta Bhukkal, Educattion Minister, Haryana graced the occasion as the Chief Guest. She congratulated the college as an embodiment of quality education and a renowned Centre for Women’s education in the region. She related the importance of education of women as a means to empower the nation and guided the students to be dynamic in their approach towards life. Congratulating the fresh graduates, she urged them to scale greater heights in life and gave her best wishes to the students to make an indelible mark in the world with their privileged education at MCM. She also encouraged them to serve the community with honesty and selflessness. Smt. Bhukkal also announced a special grant of 5 lakh rupees to MCM DAV College from the Chief Minister’s discretionary fund for the superior educational system of the college.
The event was also attended by dignitaries and educationists of repute including Sh. Vijay Sabharwal, Secy DAV Colleges Managing Committee, Sh. P. S. Jaswal, V.C. Rajiv Gandhi University, Patiala and members of the DAV Colleges Managing Committee.
The Principal of the college, Dr. (Mrs.) Puneet Bedi read out the Annual Report of the college highlighting the academic and co-curricular achievements of the college. She also congratulated the students for their academic accomplishments and inspired them to scale greater heights of glory and success in future. Felicitating Faculty members for achieving meritorious academic honours and upgrading their academic quotient, Dr. Bedi said that faculty development is the foremost foundational tool in enhancing the educative proficiency of an institution. Various faculty members were appreciated for received doctoral degrees, publishing books and received national and international awards and recognitions in their respective fields.
The Roll of Honour was given to students for holding positions at the University level. 27 special prizes were awarded to outstanding students. Of these, Gurjot Kaur (I IN PU, MAII Sociology), Mangala Bhadwaj (II in PU, MAII Sociology), Satveer Kaur (Fifth in PU, MA II Sociology), Rekha (First in PU, B Sc. III Med and Winner of M. L. Baweja Award), Prabhjot (Second in PU, B Sc III Med), Heena Sood (First in PU in B Sc III MFT), Tanvi Kapoor (Second in PU in B Sc III MFT), Ekta (First in PU in B Sc III Food Sc and Quality Control), Suhasini Pathak (Third in PU Eco Hons BA III) and Hina Hundal (III in PU in Psycho Hons BA III) deserve special mention. 26 students were given special prizes for holding positions at the college level in the Annual Examinations. Sanchi Sethi (BCA III), Khushboo (B Sc. III Non Med), Shivani Bharti (B Sc. III Voc), Preeti Kapoor (B Com III) and Jhanvi Khanna (BA III) also received the M. L. Baweja Award for Excellence in Academics. Shaina Bansal of BA III received the Sita Devi Vinayak Award for standing 1st among college students in Hindi Elective and Shruti Jain of BA III received the Ishwari Devi award for standing first in Sanskrit among the college students. Kirti Gehlawat received a special prize for being the Best Yoga Performer.
