Barinder Saluja,Chandigarh ,Jan 25 : MCM DAV College for Women, Sector 36, Chandigarh celebrated the Republic Day with full patriotic fervor and dressed the college in the hues of the national flag. From the dresses that the students were adorning to the decorations and festoons marking the 61st year of the Republic of India, all displayed a play of saffron, white and green. Students displayed posters and slogans with messages of national service and patriotism and demonstrated their love for their country by singing songs of reverence for “Bharat Mata”. Students also dressed in traditional Indian attires and performed traditional Indian dances to mark the occasion. The college also organized a Face and Hand Painting Competition in which students expressed their devotion to India through artistic and colourful paintings. Students also displayed their messages on unity and the significance of surpassing the walls that divide us. They expressed through their creative endeavours a strong will to defeat the narrow minded divisions that cast a society into isolation. Students were also educated about Republic Day and its significance. An open quiz on trivia on the constitution of India was also organized.
The Principal of the College, Dr. Puneet Bedi called the event an attempt to revive the patriotic zeal among students which is gradually waning today. Dr. Bedi said that love for one’s country is not a means of national progress alone but also that of global development. She asserted that celebrations of such historical events engenders in the youth a strong will to serve the glorious nation that they are subjects of and contribute to the development of a better and progressive society. She also instilled in students the idea of living in consonance with others and creating a strength out of unity. Giving her heartiest blessings to the students on the occasion, Dr. Bedi encouraged them to be good citizens of their country and fruitfully add to its glorious saga in their individual way.
