Chandigarh, October 11: Today as part of an ‘Empower Girls, Empower the World”, an Asia wide movement to promote UN International Day of Girl Child, volunteers of Yuvsatta with support of The Garden of Hope Foundation, Taiwan & PIDT, New Delhi organized pledges by young students at different places to strengthen a girl child friendly society.
At a programme at Government Model High School, Sector 22C, Chandigarh, Peace Club members of the School staged a skit on the theme of ‘Rise Girls Rise’ and also sung songs showcasing plight of girls in our society. Pramod Sharma, Coordinator, Yuvsatta addressing the gathering shared that incidents such as rape, abuse, exploitation, eve teasing, dowry deaths, mercy killing, trafficking, female foeticide and gender bias: these are what an average Indian woman has to face in India. And it is high time that we all resolve to change the tide in favour of girls for ever.
On the occasion Astinder Kaur, Peace Club incharge of the School administered a Pledge to over 300 students of the School in favour of supporting girls at all levels.At a similar programme at English Access classes at Government Model Sr. Sec. School, Timber Market, Sector 26, Preetinder Kaur, teacher in charge administered the pledge to 100 students. And Maninder Singh coordinator of the programme emphasized that if you empower the girls you empower the world, and if you invest in girls you invest in the future!
Around 100 Bal Panchayat of Bapu Dham Colony also took a pledge today to help raise awareness of the problems that girls face almost daily in their lives.
All the participants at different places were also given special pink ribbons symbolizing the day, specially sent by Garden of Hope Foundation, Taiwan.
