Jorawer Singh, Chandigarh, August 20, 2009: Rather than closing the institutions, asking students to not to report on a slightest inkling of swine like symptoms, Schools and colleges are now taking the ownership of educating the students. The Medical Helpline of MCM DAV College for Women, Chandigarh organized a lecture to apprise the students of the deadly H1N1 virus. Dr. Anita Sharma, Head of the Pathology Department, Fortis Hospital, Mohali, was invited by the college to enlighten the students and the faculty members about Swine Flu.
Besides suggesting precautions one can take to save oneself from the influenza, its cure and the general treatment, Dr. Sharma also highlighted the scientific and social aspects of the disease. Students are also being apprised of certain routine hygienic activities which if followed augment immunity against the disease.
For the schools, School of Public Health, PGIMER, Chandigarh has deputed two members from health education team under coordination of School Health Programme Officer, Chandigarh. On the day one, Students of class IX & X of Govt. Model High School, Sector- 38 West and Govt. Model Senior Secondary School, Sector-22, were explained the meaning, cause, prevention and treatment of HINI Influenza through audio-visual aids. This team will visit other schools of the city, one by one, to explain DO’s and DON’T’s about HINI influenza. The Handouts on the correct techniques of hand washing and DO’s and DON’T’s are also being circulated amongst the teachers for School notice boards.
The Principal of the college, Dr. Puneet Bedi, owning the social responsibility said “In wake of the fatalistic virus taking toll on world health, it is imperative to educate all and our about 800 hostellers will benefit from this program” and Dr Bedi committed to continue to be responsive and sensitive to issues concerning human development and social health.
