16 Aug : Hamari Kaksha volunteers celebrated Independence Day in a Unique manner. Celebrations continued for three days. Students, teachers from different schools and colleges participated with the NGO.
The youth wing of PGGC-11, Sankalp collaborated with organizers of Hamari Kaksha and presented a cultural and interactive session with the inmates of Snehaliya at Maloya Village, Chandigarh.
They presented songs and skits and made 232 orphans of Snehaliya dance to different tunes of songs of Independence.
Quiz on history of India was undertaken and prizes like badminton rackets, footballs were given to the winners.
On 15th of August, 20 out-of-school children and students doing remedial teaching took out a Prabhat Pheri with their faces coloured in Saffron, White and Green. It started from Sukhna Lake at 07.30 AM and culminated at Govt. Model High School, Sector-8, where principal Mrs. Ravi Raj Kaur welcomed the children and introduced them to the mainstream children.
The tri-colour was unfurled in the presence of these students which lit up their faces as it was for the first time that they had seen this kind of ceremony. Students recited patriotic songs and presented a skit highlighting the condition of our Politicians. It was a unique experience for these children as they had never seen children in school uniform and pledged to join school as soon as possible.
On 16th August, the volunteers of Hamari Kaksha distributed Laddus sponsored by the Principal of DAV School, Sector-8, Mrs. Vibha Ray to the poor children at the out skirts of Kaimbwala Village where they presented a street play and read out the messeages of Independence from the newspapers.
The President of Hamari Kaksha, Mrs. Anuradha Sharma, said that it is a need of the hour that different educationists in the city to gather resources and to work with the disadvantaged section of the society and their children to spread the message of true Independence.
