By Madhup.Chandigarh, 13th Nov: Children of today are the germinating ground for future heroes. But, to actualise their full potential, they need right environment. On the eve of Children’s Day, Yuvsatta organised a felicitation event for the real life heroes to inspire spirit of selfless service among children. The heroes felicitated were L/Nk Sanjay Kumar, PVC, who fought the Kargil war, face of Indian valour in Bangladesh war of liberation Brig Sant Singh, MVC (Bar), (Rtd). Children were told about the narratives of their true life bravery and the relevance of decorations like PVC and MVC.
Apart from the role of valour, they were also made aware of societal responsibility. About 21 meritorious girls from Bapu Dham Colony were honoured in a programme at GGD SD College, to highlight relevance of girl’s education for a fair and just society. This was done to reduce dropping out rate of girl students from colonies, which is on a very high side. Parents of these girls were also made to sign an affidavit, promising to facilitate their daughter’s education. The event was jointly organized by Yuvsatta, SD College, Indian Oil Corp. Ltd.., NSS, 2 Chandigarh NCC Bn and was supported by HQ Western Command.
Prominent amongst those who were present on the occasion included Hawa Singh Hooda, Advocate General of Haryana, Anu Chatrath, Mayor, PK Sharma, DPI (Schools) TN Singla, Director, SBI, RK Arora, General Manager, IOC, Punjab State Office, Maj. Gen. Sudesh Kumar, Rtd., Col. GS Saheed, CO, 2 Chandigarh NCC Bn. & Pramod Sharma, Coordinator of Yuvsatta. Welcoming the dignitaries Dr. AC Vaid, Principal of GGDSD College said that it’s high time we recognize the need for promoting a girl child friendly society and respect for brave soldiers of Indian Armed forces.
Presenting brand new bicycles & gift packs to 21 meritorious girls of Bapu Dham Colony studying in Govt. Sr. Sec. School, (TM), Govt. Model High School (Police Lines), Govt. Middle School of Sector 26 & at ‘Kitabghar’, Anu Chatrath, Mayor stressed that Chandigarh has one of the worst skewed sex ratios in the country: 777 females for every 1,000 males, so more & more such programmes are required to bring forward the missing girls in our society. On the occasion students of Bhawan Vidyalaya, Panchkula, beautifully highlighted the plight of girl child in a street play.
Honouring L/Nk Sanjay Kumar who got the highest gallantry award of Param Veer Chakra and Brig Sant Singh, Rtd., who captured Dhaka, thus paving the way for liberation of Bangladesh and twice also got the second highest gallantry award of Maha Veer Chakra, the Advocate General of Haryana Hawa Singh Hooda stressed that if we enjoy a peaceful life in Chandigarh or elsewhere in India.
Later on, GM of IOC (Indian Oil Corporation), Mr. RK Arora said, “We continuously support issues of public concern as they’re aware of the need to work beyond financial considerations and put in that little extra to ensure that they are perceived not just as corporate behemoths that exist for profits, but as wholesome entities created for the good of the society and for improving the quality of life of the communities they serve.
