CHANDIGARH, JULY 9 :Ashish of Accountant General of Punjab completed a golden double as he emerged winners in the men’s singles as well as men’s doubles of the North Zone Indian Audit and Accounts Department Badminton Championship at the Sector 42 Badminton Hall here today.
With his deft placements at the vacant spots and sizzling overhead smashes Ashish defeated Vijay of Delhi Audit 21-16, 21-15 in the men’s singles final. Later in association with Amit, Ashish beat Apinderpal Singh and Sunil of Delhi Audit 21-15, 21-16 in the doubles final.
Delhi Audit scored a thrilling 3-2 triumph against Accontant General Punjab in the team championship final. Amit gave Punjab a 1-0 lead by beating Rajiv Sharma in the first singles match 14-21, 24-22, 17-21. Sunil neutralised the lead as outpointed Lav Kumar 21-12, 21-11 to make it one-all.
Then Delhi Audit went ahead as Apinderpal Singh and Rajiv beat Ashish & Amit 19-21, 21-14, 21-19. However, Vijay of Delhi Audit lost to Ashish 21-19, 19-21, 22-24 as Punjab made it two-all. In the deciding doubles Vijay and Sunil of Delhi Audit beat Vikas and Lav Kumar 21-10, 21-14 to clinch the thrilling victory.
