Chandigarh : A large number of peace loving individuals belonging to different parties and activist groups, teachers, lawyers, and students gathered in sector 17 Plaza at Chandigarh to raise their voice for peace against the proposed limited attack on Syria by the Obama government. Already more than one lakh people have been killed in the ongoing war in Syria and USA, supported by France, Saudi Arabia, Canada and Turkey, are planning to make capital out of the troubled waters. More than six million people have been seriously affected by the devastation of War and many of them living a life of refugees. Kamaljit Singh of CPI(ML) Liberation said that Syrians need food and shelter and not more missiles as America is planning for them. Rabinder Sharma, a peace activist, reminded the people about the lies of USA in the case of attack on Iraq and even now chemical weapons are supplied to Syria by U.K. It is yet to be proved that in case the chemical weapons are used who was it, Syrian government or the rebels. Prof Manjit Singh from Panjab University Chandigarh while addressing the gathering appealed to the US Congress not to give permission for the use of missiles by the USA government. “The way international political blocks are divided on the unilateral decision of ‘limited attack’ by the USA may take very dangerous turn” warned Prof. Singh. Sh P.L. Garg, Former Registrar of Baba Farid University strongly opposed the war mongering politics of US and lamented that it is nothing but a tactic to prop up its sagging economy by looting resources and selling arms. Sh R.S. Bains a senior advocate of Punjab and Haryana High Court, quoting history said that War is no solution to human problems. “Dialogue and peace are the only enduring solutions to all the global conflicts” added Sardara Singh Cheema of Sahit Chintan, Chandigarh. Prof. Inder Singh while vouching for peace said that America should learn from its own history of adventurism.
Hamir Singh, President, Internationalist Democratic Party, Punjab and Malwinder Singh Mali of Punjab Manch also appealed the Obama government to listen to the sentiments of the people from all over the world and desist from using armaments against the war torn Syria. Sh Rajeev Godara of Sampooran Karanti Manch, Haryana and Sh Lalan Baghel of ‘Critique’, Panjab University, Chandigarh condemned the unilateral decision of the USA to interfere with the internal politics of Syria. They warned that Middle East may go berserk if super-powers did not take notice of the anti war sentiments all over the world, including that of the people of U.K. and Germany. A large number of other people and organizations also joined the protest.
