22 may : Chandigarh Health and Wellness Association (CHAWA) was inaugurated today by Mr. Abhinav Bindra, Olympic Gold Medalist at Taj Hotel, Sector 17 Chandigarh. The Association has been founded by Mr. Jagdeep Singh Cheema. Mr. Cheema in welcoming the guests said that he established this association in order to promote Chandigarh to be the ‘Health Conscious City of India’, by raising awareness of rare diseases like Polyangiitis with Granulmatosis (Wegener’s Disease), which can be life threatening as well as creating infrastructure for fitness in and around Chandigarh. The Association will also support PGI faculty for research concerning rare and other diseases.Mr. Abhinav Bindra stated that in today’s fast moving life, surrounded by pollution and numerous diseases that is shortening human life, I must applaud Mr. Cheema for establishing CHAWA for the cause of wellness for the citizens and promoting a healthy lifestyle in Chandigarh and its neighbouring areas. This will achieve profound disease related knowledge and wellness in their lives.
Mr. Jeev Milkha Singh, Professional Golfer has offered his sincere congratulations and has said “ many people only talk about what they would like to do, it is therefore great when someone actually puts words into action”. He has also offered to play in a Charity Golf Tournament organized by CHAWA that would raise money for suitable causes like the PGI, to fund research and treatment.
Prof. Subash Verma, HOD, Internal Medicine, PGI said that along with wellness it is very important for people to remember that the term good health includes mental, physical and social wellbeing.
Dr. Aman Sharma, M.D., Assistant Professor, MAMS, PGI said that such organizations are needed to help create awareness and serve the people. He says at PGI “we are committed to diagnose and treat people to the best of our ability and at times we find that some patients do need the support of organizations to come up and assist them during emergencies”. He thanked Mr. Cheema for making this effort to support PGI.
Mr. Anup Kundra, Ambassador, Intl. Advisory Council Member & International Liaison, International Health Racquet and Sports Club Association (IHRSA) & Managing Director of Family Fitness 2000 plus and the later company will support the association for their first project with for health and wellness equipment worth Rs. 1 crore. Family fitness 2000 plus will also support the trainers visit from USA on a regular and periodic basis. CHAWA will be affiliated to IHRSA so that the association members can use 22,000 wellness facilities globally.
Mr. J.S. Jatana, General Secretary, CHAWA, gave a vote of thanks to everyone who worked very hard to establish this association. He hopes to receive consistent support of the people to make this association a success. He said to make such endeavours a success media also has a very important role to play.
