CHANDIGARH, JAN 3 :The Chandigarh Golf Club today honoured ace Indian golfer Jeev Milkha Singh by installing his portrait here today. Jeev’s portrait was uneviled at the CG Club at an impressive function in the evening.Citing his achievements, Golf Club president DS Bains said "Jeev’s portrait will be an inspiration for budding golfers of India."
Bains said "Jeev Milkha Singh has become a golfing icon and is placed at the 36th position in the world. He is also Asia’s No. 1 golfer for the year 2008."
The year 2008 was a golden period for Jeev, son of legendary runner ‘Flying Sikh’ Milkha Singh. He was winner in the Golf Nippon Series JT Cup in Japan, the European Tour’s Bank of Austria Golf Championship, Nagashima Shiego International Sega Cammy Cup adn the Barclay’s Singalpore Open.
Mr Bains said that the club would invite Jeev’s suggestions so that an international tournament ‘"ery soon."
Jeev learnt golf at the Chandigarh Golf Club and he announced his arrival on the golf scene by winning the first British Aerospace Juniors at the Delhi Golf Club at the age of 13. With a number victories in Asia, Europe and his top 10 ranking in the American Masters, Jeev has brought laurels to Chandigarh while playing in the international golf cirucit.
"Milkha Singh and Jeev have made India proud," said Mr Bains while requesting Jeev Milkha Singh to guide the CGC to improve its layout of fairways and grens and also help the CGC arrange major tournaments to maintain its position as a premier golfing insitution of India."
