The India Post, 17th November, 2008 :The Chandigarh Administration has decided to celebrate the Quami Ekta Week (National Integration Week) from November 19 to 25. To mark the week various activities will be planned for each day. A meeting under the chairmanship of UT Home Secretary, Mr. Ram Niwas was held today.
It was decided that on November 19 Adviser to the UT Administrator, Mr. Pradip Mehra will administer the Pledge taking ceremony at UT Secretariat, Sector 9. DPI (C) would organize symposium, seminars focusing on issues like secularism, anti-communalism and non-violence. A cycle rally has also been planned to mark the day.
November 20 will be observed as Welfare of Minorities Day and the celebrations for the day would be looked after by the Municipal Corporation, Chandigarh. Linguistic Harmony Day will be celebrated on November 21. Various literary functions, kavi Sammelans would be organized to enable people of each region to appreciate the linguistic heritage of other region.
November 22 would be commemorated as Weaker Sections Day. Meetings and awareness rallies would be organized by the Department of Social Welfare for the SC and ST persons and weaker sections. November 23 will be remembered as Cultural Unity Day and special performances by North Zone Cultural Center’s artists would be organized with the support of Department of Public Relations at Leisure Valley.
Women’s Day will be celebrated on November 24 and Department of Social Welfare will organize various activities highlighting the issues of women empowerment and their role in development of nation-building. November 25 will be commemorated as Conservation Day and to mark the day school children will plant trees under the guidance of Conservator of Forest.
Deputy Commissioner, Mr. R.K. Rao, Joint Secretary, Home, Mr. Bhupinder Singh, Director of Public Relations, Mr. R.S. Verma, DPI (S) Mr. Samwartak Singh, Conservator of Forests, Mr. Ishwar Singh and Additional Commissioner, MC, Mr. P.K. Sharma were present in the meeting.
