CHANDIGARH, SEPT 20 :Guru Harkishan Model School, Sector 38 and Carnel Convent School, Sector 9 claimed the boys under-19 and girls under-19 team championships, respectively, in the North Zone Central Board of Secondary Education (Cluster XIII) Table Tennis Tournament organised by The Banyan Tree School, Sector 48-B at the Sector 23 Badminton Hall here today.
Carmel Convent defeated KC Public School of Jammu by 3-1 in the girls under-19 final. GHMS-38 also recorded an identical 3-1 verdict againsst DAV Public School, Sector in the boys under-19 team championship final.
Rajeshwari stole the show in the girls Under-19 team championship final against KC Public School as she won both her matches. She prevailed over Tanvi by 11-4, 10-12, 11-4, 11-6 to give her team the lead. Harjasleen then defeated Lavanya by 11-9, 11-4, 11-9 in the second singles. However, Ishita lost to Sandeep 3-11, 6-11, 5-11. That was the only game the Jammu and Kashmir school won in the final.
Rajeshwari then wrapped up the final with a fluent 11-6, 11-9, 11-3 against Lavanya as Carmel Convent registered a 3-1 win.
SD Public School of Ambala Cantonment blanked Bhavan Vidayalaya of Panchkula by 3-0 to finish third in the girls under-19 team championship.
Dev Saini performed well as he won both his matches to enable GHMS-38 defeat DAV Public School, Sector 8 by 3-1 in the boys under-19 team championship final. Sameer Singla put GHMS in the lead by beating Rajan Mahindra by 11-8, 8-11, 11-9, 11-6 in the opening singles match. Then Dev Saini doubled the margin at the expense of Mayank Kapoor 11-4, 11-6, 10-12, 11-8. Dev won his second match against Rajan Mahindra by 11-5, 8-11, 11-7, 11-5. In between GHMS’s Chetan Kumar lost to Sahil Singla 8-11, 6-11, 9-11 as DAVPS reduced the margin to 1-2.
Ajit Karam Singh International Public School, Sector 41 secured third position after defeating SD Public School of Ambala Cantonment by 3-0.
