Chandigarh 5th July; The PGI Employees Union has taken out a candlelight march today in support of their demand for one increment on the eve of Golden Jubilee of the Institute as granted by many organizations in the region. The members of PGI Engineers Association, PGI Hospital Attendants Association, PGI Security Guards Association, PGI OT Technical Staff Union, PGI Laboratory Attendant Association, PGI. PGI Safai Karamchari Union, PGI Pharmacists Association and many others had participated in the candlelight march.
The candlelight march started at 5.30 PM from near PU Gate for Plaza Sector 17. The employees raised slogans and carried play cards and handbills highlighting their demands. The representatives of Union addressed the employees at Plaza Sector 17. The Union will submit a Memorandum to the Hon’ble Union Health Minister / President of PGIMER on 6th July.
The members of PGI Employees Union will wear black badges and boycott the visit of Hon’ble Sh. Ghulam Nabi Azad. Union Health Minister / President of PGIMER on his visit to the Institute on 6th July, 2013 on the concluding function of Golden Jubilee and meeting of Governing Body of the Institute.
The PGI Employees Union will request the Hon’ble Minister to appoint an IAS officer as Director of PGI by amending PGI Act because the doctors lack knowledge of administration, law and service rules, which has ruined the Institute. The Governing Body / Institute Body had resolved in the year 2002 to allow workers participation in decision making bodies by including a representative of workers in Governing Body, Standing Finance Committee, etc., which need immediate implementation. Two Faculty Staff had already been included in Governing Body besides Dean and Director and further the Sub-Dean and Medical Superintendent attend the Governing Body and SFC as Special Invitee.
In the meantime, the PGI Administration has arranged the meeting with Union Health Secretary / Chairman of Standing Finance Committee for tomorrow at 12.30 PM to discuss the demand of one increment for Golden Jubilee of PGI.
