Chandigarh : People for Animals Chandigarh launched a ‘Campaign for Animal Welfare & Management’ at MCM DAV College for Women, Chandigarh, the inception ground for the humane enterprise according to Payal Sodhi, the founder of PFA and an alumna of MCM. She along with Mr. Sandeep Hans, PCS, Director Higher Education & Mr. Bikram Rana, State Liaison Officer (NSS) for Chandigarh graced the occasion.
The representatives of PFA put up an outreach information desk to facilitate exchange of ideas and distributed pamphlets & posters to sensitize the students regarding animal welfare.
The campaign aims at introducing Animal welfare into the agenda of NSS units throughout the tricity colleges. The NSS volunteers of MCM enthusiastically embraced the novel addition and presented posters on Animal welfare issues. The students of MSW (Masters of Social Work), P.U. Chandigarh were also present as Animal welfare & Management has been inculcated into their curriculum.
Mr. Sandeep Hans, the DHE motivated the students to make small changes in their routine life so as to prevent any harm to stray animals. He emphasized upon the need to segregate waste to minimize toxic intake by stray animals, to carefully throw the garbage at designated pits to prevent injuries to stray animals etc. He said, ‘ Even those who are not animal lovers can do their bit in animal welfare by bringing awareness, galvanizing others for the cause and coexisting cordially with our environment. He also lauded the idea of introducing Animal Welfare into NSS and said it will be implemented shortly.
The guests sensitized the students regarding the importance of treating animals with love & care in order to build a symbiotic relationship with nature & its creatures. The students enthusiastically partook in the activity. Applauding the endeavor, Dr. Puneet Bedi, Principal of MCM said, “Such diligent endeavors teach us to cordially co-exist with nature thus making us better human beings.”
