Chandigarh : Traffic Marshal Advocate Rajiv Sharma was honored for his excellent and dedicated services in promoting Road Safety and saving precious human lives during the ongoing 27th National Road Safety Week, which was being organized by the Chandigarh Traffic Police at Children Traffic Park, Sector 23, Chandigarh. On this occasion DIG Shri A.S. Cheema, IPS, SSP Dr. Sukhchain Singh, IPS and SSP Traffic and HQRS Mr. Maneesh Chaudhary, IPS were present.
Mr Rajiv Sharma who was a former Rowing Coach of Chandigarh Sports Department posted at Lake Club, Chandigarh and a sailor who brought many laurels for the city beautiful and awarded certificates of appreciation many times by Chandigarh Administration in recognition of his outstanding performances at National and International level as a rowing Coach. He was the first rower of Chandigarh who won bronze medal in the 1st National games held at New Delhi in 1985 where water sports was the only event which was held for the first time in Chandigarh at lake club.
Mr. Rajiv Sharma was the first national Umpire from the Northern India who was awarded national Umpire License in 1992 from Rowing Federation of India. He acted as a jury member and a technical official in many Rowing senior and Junior Nationals as well as in Asian senior and Junior Rowing Championships which were held in Chandigarh as well as in another states. He did his NIS certificate course from NIS Eastern center from Kolkata with “A” grade in the year 2000. During his tenure as a rowing coach the game rowing started seeing the light of hope of winning medals.
Due to his hard work dedication and enthusiasm his team consisting of CRPF Women and Punjab Police Men representing Chandigarh bagged rich haul of 15 medals, 7 Gold, 4 silver and 4 bronze in the 5th National Games held at Manipur. He helped and saved many lives from drowning at Sukhna Lake during his tenure as a rowing coach. Apart from his busy schedule of law practice Mr Rajiv Sharma is involved in many social work and is giving his valuable time for promoting the cause of road safety and awareness with Chandigarh Traffic police.
