By : Sargun Makhni, 16 June : From the high cut-offs to inaccessible admissions to unlimited sale of admission forms in the city beautiful colleges, students are running a rat race for the admissions in various college of Chandigarh. This year it’s not that Delhi University has the highest cut offs even Chandigarh colleges are not far behind.
This year GGDSD College has bagged the maximum number of admissions. It is one of the leading commerce colleges in Chandigarh, has received over 4,000 applications for admissions to 280 available seats in the Bachelor of Commerce (B.Com) stream. The cut-off percentage for this course in SD College is 84.8 per cent and 73.8 per cent at DAV College. Both MCM and GCG-11 reported a cut-off of 86 per cent.
While all B.Com seats at GGDSD College, Sector 32, MCM DAV College for Women, Sector 36 and DAV College, Sector 10 were filled on the first day itself.
At SD College, which is offering the maximum number of professional courses, seats in all streams have been almost filled. The cut-off in BSc (Computer Applications) and BSc (Information Technology) is 65 per cent, while for BSc (Biotechnology), it is 75 per cent. No other college in the city is presently offering these three courses..
For MSc (Information Technology), which is being offered only by SD College and DAV College, the cut-off is 71.3 per cent and 70 per cent, while for M.Com, which is again being offered only by these two colleges, the cut-off is 75.63 per cent for SD College and 66.64 for DAV College.
As far as the Bachelor of Computer Applications course is concerned MCM reported the highest cut-off of 82.6 percent. For Bachelor of Business Administration; the cut-off is 75 per cent at GGDSD College, followed by 70.2 per cent at DAV College, while GC-11 for the lowest cut off with just 52 per cent.
However, the number of students seeking admission this year in all these colleges is beyond the expectations of everyone.
