Chandigarh, February 27:- Being Saturday, the opening of the second day of the ongoing Rose Festival-2010 was marked by whopping number of visitors. The World famous Zakir Rose Garden, considerably, the largest of its kind in Asia is blooming multi-colour flowers and spreading hues and fragrances all around.
The Festival showcases some of the country’s best and biggest rose displays. The second day of the festival was marked by various competitions including Rose Prince & Princess, Photography, Kite Flying and Rose Quiz Antakshri.
The Rose Prince & Princess competition was inaugurated by Mrs. Renu Aggarwal wife of Chief Secretary, Punjab. UT Finance Secretary, Mr. Sanjay Kumar was also present during the function. She took round of the enclosure to meet the participants and to interact with the judges of the competition. The panel of judges included a doctor, a teacher and a house wife. The competition was conducted under different age groups, in which 496 children participated enthusiastically. All the participants were given soft toys.
Under the Rose Princess category, in the age group of 1 to 1½ years, Aaina bagged the first prize and the runner up was Arshiya. In the age group of 1 ½ to 2 years, Vaibhavi was adjudged as the winner and Yomika Arora was runner up. In the age group of 2 to 3 years, Pihu Sharma won the first prize and Gurmel Kaur Hans came second.
In the Rose Prince category, in the age group of 1 to 1 ½ years, Aarush Kanwar won the first position while, Harmer Singh was declared runner up. In the age group of 1 ½ to 2 years, Harsh Mehta was declared first and the second position was bagged by Aamir Kohli. In the age group of 2 to 3 years, Akshat Baweja won the first prize and Jaideep Singh Reen adjudged as runner up.
Another competition of Kite Flying was also held. Chief Commissioner Customs & Central Excise, Mr. P K Sirohi inaugurated the Kite Flying Competition, in which approximately 200 participants took part. The first prize was won by Rajan while second and third prizes were bagged by Zankhna and Abhisha, respectively. Chandresh was given the consolation prize.
In the Rose Quiz Antakshari Competition, a total of 18 teams participated, out of which, 4 teams were selected for the final round. UT Finance Secretary, Mr. Sanjay Kumar was the chief guest in the Antakshari Competition. Pink Rose Team of Dr. Ambedkar College of Hotel Management-42 bagged the first position while Red Rose Team of GCG-11, Yellow Rose Team of SD College-32 and White Rose Team of GCG-14, Panchkula won second, third and consolation prizes respectively. Dr. S.K. Punia was the chief coordinator of the Antakshari Competition. Chief Engineer, Mr. Surinder Pal gave away the prizes to the winners.
