PASIGHAT, March 31: The local artists/musicians come together in a ‘Folk Music Festival’, held at the Town Club, Pasighat today to showcase typical folk song and dance of Adi tribes. The crowed pulling event was organized by the All India Radio Pasighat in collaboration with its Dibrugarh counter part to stimulate the charm, emotion and energy of Adi folk music connoisseurs.
The Deputy Commissioner Talem Tapok and eminent writer Oshong Ering, IAS (Rtd) graced the joyous occasion as Chief Guest and Guest of Honour respectively. Speaking on the occasion the Chief Guest Tapok said, ‘Folk Music Festival’ was a unique idea and would act like a musical balm creating cultural awareness and new avenues for younger generation to come forward in fields like arts and music. The DC while extending his thanks to the organizer stated that the tradition and culture of Adi community could be protected and preserved through such initiatives besides supporting and promoting the local folk music composers, lyrists, singers, music researchers and live performers.
He suggested the AIR authorities to organize such event at larger scale in future so that folk music of all the tribes and sub-tribes of the state could be staged for public viewing, inviting various musicologists and music critics of the country. Though the modern society is being swayed away by Bollywood and Hollywood trends, the AIR Pasighat took bold step to promote emerging artists giving audience exposure to both new and seasoned talents, commented the Guest of Honour of the program, Oshong Ering in his deliberation. According to him, it was an opportunity for the local artists to expose their hidden talents while appealed the elders to guide the younger generation to love their own culture and tradition.
The officers of AIR Pasighat K Mindo (Program-Executive), JB Nabam, A Morang and Gejom Karga Lobom all Transmission-Executives also spoke and conveyed their thanks to the Additional Director General (NER), Deputy Director to ADG (NER) and the Program-Head of AIR, Dibrugarh for their presence and unstinted supports. Legendary Adi singer Talut Mize and Anumoti Sisam enthralled the audience with their melodious renditions and a group of young dancers compelled the audience to tap their feet.
