Andaman,May 13:In Andaman and Nicobar Islands, early monsoon sets in. Wide spread heavy rain disrupted normal life in the islands. Thousands of passengers, mostly tourists have been stranded in Port Blair following the cancellation of many flights over the past few days due to inclement weather.
AIR correspondent Dhanashekharan reports that very heavy rains have been lashing many parts of the islands following the early onset of south west monsoon over Andaman Sea. In Port Blair, the low lying areas are water logged and the affected people are accommodated in the special camps at different locations. The Disaster Management committee chairman informed AIR news that the administration supplied food, clothes and other essential item to the affected families in the camps. Due to heavy water logging in the run way at Port Blair airport, most of the flights were cancelled for the fourth day today.
Meanwhile, the weather men predicted very heavy rains will continue at most places during the next 24 hours. The danger signal No. 3 has been hoisted at all the ports in the islands. The fisher men have been cautioned not to venture in to the sea.
