Chandigarh : School of Public Health, PGIMER, Chandigarh in collaboration with UNICEF New Delhi concluded 8-day National Capacity Development Workshop for District Level Managers on Reproductive and Child Health (RCH) Planning. This workshop was attended by around 20 participants from Chhattisgarh, Odisha and West Bengal.
This workshop was structured to improve the knowledge and skills of district level managers for planning and implementation of reproductive and child health programme under National Rural Health Mission. The participants were trained on various interventions available under the programme. The methodology was based on principles of adult learning. It built the understanding for better delivery of RCH interventions as reflected by the participants through their feed backs.
The participants made presentations of their District Action Plans before a team of faculty members of School of Public Health. Pre and post test showed improvement in the knowledge and skills of the district level program managers in their capacity for effective program planning, implementation, monitoring.
Health specialist from UNICEF, Dr Jagdeesan M answered the queries of all participants on the last day. He stressed the use of local language while designing community health messages and to monitor the activities continuously.
Dr Rajesh Kumar Prof and Head, School of Public Health, while praising the presence of public health communication officers at district level in some states said that they need to use their facilities in enhancing IEC/BCC activities. In his closing remarks Dr Rajesh Kumar emphasized the tracking of service delivery and assessing the progress of activities planned.
