Y.S. RANA, CHANDIGARH—Open Eyes Foundation has started a pilot project under its ‘period positive abhiyan’ on Menstrual Swachh Day at Shahpur Colony here on Thursday. A large number of women and girls were present on the occasion.
Under its ‘Period Postive Abhiyan’ poor women and girls belonging to rural areas of Chandigarh would provide sanitary pads free-of-cost for four months. The foundation will also start campaign to aware the women about the importance of sanitary pads.
While talking to its president Sandeep Badsra revealed that the foundation had conducted a survey. It was found that women aware about the sanitary pads but they did not know the usefulness of their uses.
He further stated that due to high price of sanitary pads women could not use them and instead use old clothes. It led to a number of allergic ailments among the women and girls, revealed the survey.
Keep it in mind the foundation has decided to distribute these free-of-cost for found months among the women folk. It was also decided to hold medical check-up camp every month. Mr Badsra further revealed that with the support of these women foundation would set up a sanitary pads manufacturing unit in the area. In this way on one hand it would provide employment to the women and on the other would provide sanitary pads at minimal prices. The action of the foundation would definitely popularize the use of sanitary pads among the poor women and girls, he said.
Motivational speaker Ms Savita is appointed as in charge of the campaign.
