Chandigarh : So far, 165 patients have been recruited from the tricity in the ICMR/ DST Project on“ Care of bedridden Patients. Patients are also recruited from the other adjoining areas of Chandigarh. Most of the patients have shown significant improvement in their condition. This has been possible because of the appropriate home based care provided by their caregivers. Once the caregivers are trained regarding the dressing of wound, exercises, etc, they are able to take care of the patient efficiently. So, training of caregivers is proving to be a milestone in the recovery of bedridden patients with bedsores. This is being appreciated by the people of tricity as their loved ones get the much needed attention and care right at their doorsteps.
In order to create awareness on the issue of bedsores in bedridden patients, two projects are running successfully under the guidance of Dr. Sukhpal Kaur, (Lecturer, Department of NINE, PGI) and Dr. Amarjeet Singh (Professor, School of Public Health, PGI). The project team regularly visits the homes of bedridden patients to train their caregivers to prevent and treat bedsores. Booklets in Hindi and English are distributed free of cost to the families included in the study. The purpose of this book is to provide simple solutions to the challenges faced by the bedridden patients and their caregivers in day to day life. The books emphasize on the training of the caregivers regarding home based care of the bedridden patients.
Interested persons/families may contact the project team at 8872016108 and 0172-2745500 for registering themselves in the study. Cases are recruited after screening them for inclusion criteria. No charges are levied for these services. The cost of care is borne through the project funds.
